Colin Boyce MP is urging the Queensland Premier David Crisafulli MP to scrap his supporting net zero by 2050 policy. This is the policy which is causing wide-scale destruction of agricultural farmland and native vegetation, flora and fauna along the tops of the Great Dividing Range from Cairns to the Qld/NSW border.
“The net zero argument is the principal driver of the whole cost of living issue,” Mr Boyce said. “Everything becomes more expensive with the net zero by 2050 policy.”
Mr Crisafulli last week argued that renewable energy is bringing down the price of wholesale power.
“This may be so however, it is the retail cost of power that concerns consumers, both industrial, business and domestic,” Mr Boyce noted.
“Wholesale price of power does not include the cost of the distribution network – transmission lines, upgrades, maintenance, retail costs/profits etc. As far as the consumer is concerned this is what is driving up the cost of electricity. The more renewable energy you connect to the network, the more expensive power becomes. Coal is by far the cheapest form of power we have; however, it does not fit with the virtuous net zero emissions argument.”
“Australia is sacrificing its living standards and industrial capacity to achieve nothing in terms of the rest of the word. It is high time our political leaders understand this and formulate energy policy that is in Queensland and Australia’s best interest, from a practical point of view, not from an ideological point of view.”

“There are more than one hundred projects at various stages of approval in the electorate of Flynn, and the majority of my constituents are opposed to these projects which are destroying the landscape, flora and fauna and agricultural land in its path.”
“The renewable energy industry is turning agricultural land into industrial energy zones that have little benefit to the affected communities. In terms of percentage of profit that is returned to small communities, it is very little.
“And we have the federal Labor government propping up these projects with a guaranteed return through the Capacity Investment Scheme – again with taxpayers money.”
The recently released GenCost 2025-26 Report by CSIRO agrees. It states clearly that if we remove the emissions targets, then coal generation is a cost-competitive bulk energy option.
“My constituents in Flynn already know this. They support coal fired power as it’s the cheapest base load power Queensland can provide.”
“They know that renewables require billions of dollars to be spent on new transmission lines. They know that renewable energy will never be able to provide consistent base load power 24 hours a day which is required for industry and households.”
“The Crisafulli government are trying to compensate this by building gas peaking power generators which again are more expensive power than coal fired power.”
