The electorate of Flynn will be first on the list for the House Select Committee on Nuclear Energy’s Regional Visits next week.
With the Callide Power Station selected as a possible location by Leader of the Opposition, Peter Dutton, the Committee will be holding a Public Hearing on Wednesday, 13 November from 8:30am in Biloela, Central Queensland.
Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce said it will be important for the Nuclear Committee members to hear from the community of Biloela, to hear their issues about the current energy issues that they have been facing.
“With the CS Energy Power Station scheduled for closure in 2028, and the impact of transmission lines, wind turbines and solar panels on their agricultural land, people are looking for security and are willing to consider nuclear to meet their energy needs,” Mr Boyce said.
“Businesses in Biloela can see the impact that the closure will have. The loss of over 260 workers will be felt across the town, in the schools, the shops, sporting clubs and the community organisations that support these families.
“With their jobs on the line, they are interested to learn what nuclear can offer to the workforce”.
The Committee will meet at the Biloela RSL on Wednesday morning, with the first speaker expected to commence at 8:30am. As a Public Hearing, locals are welcome to attend.
Mr Boyce also encourages sending in a Submission to the Committee before their closing date of 15 November 2024 at Inquiry into nuclear power generation in Australia – Parliament of Australia.
“I will always stand up for the jobs of hardworking men and women in Central Queensland and work to keep our regions thriving, in spite of Labor’s anti-jobs policies,” Mr Boyce said.
