MORE LOCAL ATHLETES SUPPORTED THROUGH LOCAL SPORTING CHAMPIONS PROGRAM

Successful applicants for Round 4 of the Federal Government’s 2025–26 Local Sporting Champions program have been announced, with more young athletes across the Flynn electorate set to benefit.

Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce said a total of $25,900 in funding will be distributed across the region, supporting 40 successful athletes to help cover the costs of competing in local, state and national championships.

Recipients come from communities right across Flynn, including Agnes Water, Biloela, Boyne Island/Tannum Sands, Benaraby, Calliope, Emerald, Gladstone, Gin Gin, Gooburrum, Moore Park Beach, Mundubbera, South Kolan, Springsure and Sharon.

“These successful applicants are competing or have competed in a wide range of sports, highlighting the depth of talent right across our region,” Mr Boyce said.

“The Local Sporting Champions program provides young athletes with financial assistance to help with costs like travel, accommodation and equipment when representing their community.”

Mr Boyce said the strong number of applications demonstrated the passion and dedication of young athletes across Flynn.

“It’s fantastic to see so many young people from regional communities putting themselves forward and striving to compete at higher levels,” he said.

“Regional athletes often face higher costs when travelling to competitions, so programs like this play a vital role in ensuring they have the opportunity to pursue their sporting ambitions.”

Mr Boyce congratulated all successful applicants and wished them the very best in their upcoming competitions.

“I encourage young athletes across the Flynn electorate to consider applying for future rounds of the program if they are competing at an eligible championship level.”
