Gladstone Hospital Petition

Representing Flynn in the Federal Parliament

The electorate of Flynn is over 132,000 square kilometres and is almost twice the size of Tasmania.

It stretches from the Central Highlands to the West, Gracemere to the North, Gladstone to the East and Wondai to the South while taking in the towns in between.

I drive over 50,000 kilometres a year staying in touch with our local communities and spend around 20 weeks in Canberra representing you in Parliament.

My electorate offices are open in the following locations to service the large Flynn electorate:

  • 76 Goondoon Street, Gladstone QLD 4680
  • 2/115 Egerton Street, Emerald QLD 4720
  • 39 Capper Street, Gayndah QLD 4625

I’m committed to taking Flynn forward.

The Coalition will strongly oppose Labor’s latest Misinformation Bill, which is an attack on free speech.

Last year, the Government released its first Misinformation Bill. The Bill drew more than 20,000 submissions and comments in opposition to it, and was withdrawn in disgrace last November.

With its latest attempt, Labor has again demonstrated that it does not respect the fundamental right of Australians to free speech. This is a Bill which has no place in Australia.

The Bill gives digital platforms an enormous financial incentive to censor statements made by everyday Australians. If the Government decides that they have not censored enough “misinformation”, they can face large fines.

The Coalition will strongly oppose this dangerous legislation, and will always stand up to protect the free speech of Australians.

Head to www.binthebill.au and add your name to the list of Australians that oppose Labor’s censorship laws.

At the Bedford Weir, near Blackwater, a special Police Remembrance Day was held at the place where the First Queensland Police Officers gave their lives in service back in 1867.

Constables Cahill and Power were serving with the Queensland Police as escorts to the Acting Gold Commissioner when they were killed at the Mackenzie River Crossing. Further details of their story can be found on the myPolice Musuem website: mypolice.qld.gov.au/museum/2020/11/02/from-the-vault-gold-and-greed-part-1-the-murder-of-constabl...

We recognise the unique nature of policing, and the dangers that they face on a daily basis in their line of work, with a day of remembrance held annually across Australia.

Thanks to Lane from my Emerald office for attending and laying a wreath on my behalf.

Police Remembrance Day services were held in the Flynn electorate today.

Every year, services, marches and candlelight vigils are held across Australia to pause and honour all police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

I thank my Team for attending and laying a wreath on my behalf at the Gladstone service this morning.

Marmor Quarry is operating as a metalliferous mine and involves the extraction of hard rock for processing into rock materials, such as ballast, aggregate and road base.

Marmor Quarry has a strong position on environmental protection and continues to rehabilitate previously worked areas, as well as managing vegetation and weed and seed control.

Thanks to the team for showing Glen Kelly - LNP for Mirani and I around!

The Gladstone Central Committee on the Aging recently held their AGM where a number of topics were discussed including the lack of aged care, housing, the importance of cash and the cost of living crisis.

I was very impressed with the professional and transparent manner in which the AGM was conducted. Everything was handled by the book, demonstrating strong adherence to proper governance and procedures which many organisations could learn from.

At the AGM, the previous committee largely remained in place for another year, with the exception of Barbara Anderson, who was congratulated and recognised for her many years of dedicated service as a committee member and was awarded life membership.
